Still numb…

I imagine it’s been talked about everywhere in hushed tones over the last few weeks, and the verdict today brought everything flashing back.

All the tears. All the emotion. All the questions.

And none of it can ever bring Bailey Gwynne back home again.

I’m proud to call Aberdeenshire my home. I’m proud to have worked at Northsound for twenty-one years. And in all that time, this is the one moment I can recall with horrific crystal clarity.

This is what I said at the time when it was raw, but a lot of it still holds true today.

It always sounds patronising when you hear the words – “You don’t get what being a parent really means until you are one”

It is patronising. It’s also absolutely one hundred percent true.

Losing a child is the ultimate fear….

I’m so very sorry for your loss.

40+? Stuck? Read on….

I’ve just completed some work for my company Mellis Media with Life Coach, Theresa Day, and because it was so fascinating to be involved in, I thought I’d share some of it with you.

Pretty much because in the course of the conversation about Theresa’s ‘9 Steps To An Authentic Connection’ I recognised aspects of myself, and realised this programme was for me, and, most likely, you too.

Here’s the introduction – less than 5 minutes of your life, and possibly the doorway to a better one. What have you got to lose?

Incidentally, if you’re at all interested in Theresa’s work, I’d encourage you to find out more via her website here

Offshore Europe 2015 – Day 2 – Podcast

I’m live with Northsound 1 all this week from Offshore Europe 2015 at the Aberdeen Exhibition And Conference Centre.

Offshore Europe Day 2 - Medium
Today included two new announcements by Aberdeen’s Universities. RGU announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Mexican Government – which allows a bigger and better oil and gas collaboration between the two.
Aberdeen University also had an announcement – they are creating a brand new Masters course to drive innovation.
The biggest talk of the day, though, surrounded new figures released by Oil and Gas UK, which revealed that sixty-five thousand jobs have been cut in the last year, due to the downturn.

However, Oil and Gas UK were keen to remain positive, saying that operating costs will be down by almost a quarter by the end of 2016.

Offshore Europe 2015 – Preview – Podcast

As I write, we’re less than twelve hours away from the opening of Offshore Europe 2015, and I really don’t know what to expect.
That’s not to say it’s my first one. It’s more like my fifth or sixth in a row, where we decamp from Northsound 1’s lovely air-conditioned studios in the South side of Aberdeen, and spend time with thousands of others at the Exhibition and Conference Centre in the heat of a large tin shed which plays home to innovation, exploration, and inspiration for four packed days.

Whether you’ve experienced Offshore Europe before, or 2015 is your first one, join me daily on Northsound 1 between 10am and 2pm and I’ll bring you the best and brightest. The serious interviews and the fun stuff too, in a period for the industry which is testing to say the least, and showing no real sign of turning the corner any time soon.
Like many sectors, the offshore industry is facing the enigma of how to deliver more with less. How will it respond?
